Five years ago June was diagnosed with breast cancer. While that diagnosis was shocking enough, she said she was am now five years out and although considered cured, she told me she was still dealing with what she believes to be the worst part of her nightmare. One that no one talks about. Her vagina.
In a loving relationship with a man who supported her throughout her journey, she was forever grateful. Low sexual desire due to vaginal and sexual pain, she said the sad thing was that she’s not been able to be intimate with her man and it wasn’t due to her diagnosis. It’s was the treatment that caused most of her pain. She’s been suffering with vaginal dryness since being treated with Tamoxifen to keep her breast cancer at bay after her chemotherapy.
Although there are many treatments like personal moisturizers for vaginal dryness, they don’t work for everyone and this was the case for June. Low dose localized estrogen is really only an option for women who’ve not had a history of breast cancer.
Now there’s a new laser technology for vaginal dryness, sexual pain and even leakage of urine called the Mona Lisa Touch. Issues of gynecologic health are commonly seen in post-menopausal women, breast cancer survivors and women who have had a hysterectomy. In the US, as many as 50% of 64 million post-menopausal women suffer from changes to their gynecologic health*, and over 2.8M breast cancer survivors**.
The MonaLisa Touch procedure is a unique treatment that uses a medical laser that delivers controlled energy to the vaginal tissue so cells make more collagen.
This procedure is a painless, in-office treatment, performed without requiring anesthesia that only takes five minutes, resulting in virtually no down time. Three treatments are recommended however many women feel results after the first treatment.
A women needn’t accept the changes that occur after breast cancer treatment of the post-menopausal gynecologic changes as an inevitable part of her life. I’m excited to say we now offer Mona Lisa Touch in my office. We are having an information session on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. To learn more, please visit: Mona Lisa Touch
