Hey guys, do you compare yourself to your friends? Don’t worry. Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is so common, they likely have it too. This is one club where anyone can become a member. There is a membership fee: health, relationships, loneliness and frustration to name a few.
A lot of men feel guilt & shame because they’re unable to please their partners making them too embarrassed to discuss ED or seek treatment.
Erectile Dysfunction is the inability to attain and maintain an erection adequate for penetrative sex. Your banana is broken. It just won’t work.
A woman presented to my clinical practice this week because of her husband’s ED. He was too shy to talk about it. So she came…..to learn about ED. She thought it was her fault. It’s not. He was still attracted to her.
Erectile Dysfunction may be the canary in the coal mine signifying an underlying health condition: heart disease, diabetes, hypertension or more on the emotional side: performance anxiety, excessive porn viewing, lack of attraction & stress. Cycling a very popular sport may decrease sexual sensation and disrupt blood flow. Ride? No more.
ED can happen at any age. No man is immune. The incidence increases at every decade of life.
We discussed first-line treatments; diet, exercise & PDE5 inhibitor medications. These medications work well in a testosterone rich environment. The simplest way to increase blood flow is through exercise which will also help your erections.
We then spoke of vacuum devices/penis rings to increase blood flow. & Intracavernosal Injections (ICI) w/ medications relax vessels & improve blood flow. (Ouch! Right? Wrong!) You da man!
In spite of PDE5 inhibitor popularity (think Viagra), ICI is still a safe & effective treatment option. And it’s just a little pin prick. Muse Intra-urethral pellets is medication for ED inserted into the penis to improve blood flow.
Then there’s the “no guarantee” shock wave therapy. Don’t believe the hype. The evidence that it works is sparse and biased but if you have an extra $3000.00 plus tax, go for it.
But not before you sit on the BTL Emsella (the Kegel Throne) a non-invasive safe and effective option that the FDA found improved blood flow & increased pelvic muscle floor strength, two crucial aspects for great erections at half the price.
I’d put my money on the BTL Emsella, a chair where you sit fully clothed while the chair delivers 11,000 Kegels in just 28 minutes to lift your pelvic floor. Things are looking up already.
Bonus: The BTL Emsella has also been cleared by the FDA and Health Canada for urinary incontinence in men just in case you suffer with ED and leakage (a double whammy) after prostate surgery.

For more information on any of these treatments, email me at nursetalk@hotmail.com or tune into the Sunday Night Health Show.
We provide most of these treatments including the BTL Emsella at Arbutus Laser Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Come for your sexual health assessment and learn what treatment is right for you. Keep in mind you may need more than one treatment to treat your ED. There’s no shame in getting help to fix or improve your erections. ED treatment options are plentiful.
The choice is yours..to love again.
